As we’re all aware there’s a lot we don’t actually know about home insurance policies and coverages. We’ve listed a few items that you might not know are probably covered under your policy:
Interior design fees.
Yes, this is in there. Not first-time fees, say you had an interior designer come in after your purchase to spruce the place up when you moved in there. You saved the bills and documented the interior design on your homeowner’s insurance policy to get that for posterity, or rather for asking for that back when a pipe exploded and flooded your living room. It’s covered, so long as it was properly documented.
Your delicious diamond earrings or cufflinks.
They’re not delicious to you, they’re a timeless heirloom you hoped to pass down to your granddaughter, or grandson, in however many years. Your puppy thought they were delectable, though. Your homeowner’s insurance will cover replacing them, so long as they’re listed in the policy. You will need to have everything meticulously documented, but this is something that most people never think of.
Your landscaping and greenery.
Your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover “trees, shrubs, and other plants” on your property. Even the ones that were part of an unplanned on-patio tree rotisserie that you didn’t sign up for. Your Christmas smoke show that went public to the neighborhood is covered under your policy.
Going back to the diamond earrings, or cufflinks… the diamond fell out and you only realized taking them out.
The wear and tear aren’t covered, but if listed on your insurance policy, this is covered. If your diamond goes missing in a covered peril, you should have coverage for it. You just have to ensure that you’ve documented everything within your policy.
Counterfeit dollar bills and money are also something you’re covered from.
If you receive counterfeit money for any reason your homeowner’s insurance covers the value of the money that you lost or assumed you had.
You drove your car into the kitchen.
First of all, this is covered, only if you can prove that this was done involuntarily. Your policy covers vehicular damage caused to your home. It has to be completely unintentional, though.
